Erbium Laser

An Erbium Laser is a popular tool for resurfacing the skin of the face to improve the damage caused by scarring and sun damage.

It is an ablative laser which means the skin layers are physically destroyed and removed. However this occurs in a very controlled and precise manner, allowing the doctor to tailor the treatment to the individual client.

It is particularly useful for the treatment of acne scarring. Individual scars can be targeted by the small beam and then the whole face can be smoothed using a larger beam.

Although it can be used in all skin types, there is an increased risk of pigment problems in people with darker skin. Therefore it is imperative that the laser be used only be an experienced doctor. Dr Tapan Patel is a National trainer for the use of Erbium Lasers and specialises in treating people with all skin types.
